Many people don't know what love really is. We use the word daily but never truly know its meaning or its power. Dictionary.com defines the word love as:-Noun

The way the dictionary portrays love, one would need to actually CARE about a person, or have a concern for them before they could love them. Care about a person in whole, their well being, their emotions, etc. So in actuality most of the people who chose to use this word use it incorrectly. Your actions should mirror your words. So if you indeed do love someone you also hold them in your heart, you genuinely are concerned with their well being. You personally would never intentionally inflict harm on them. If you could prevent such you would.
Just think next time before you misuse the word, do you actually care for this person? If you had the opportunity to prevent harm from coming their way would you assist? If you can't honestly without hesitation say yes then you should reevaluate what YOU think love is and take in what the dictionary says. Maybe you should use another word altogether.
